Description

Iimura explores Henry Bergson’s concept of the time duration or durée, which he compares to the Japanese concept of ma as a temporal-spatial entity. The work combines four elements: black leader, clear leader, a scratched white line on black, and a scratched black line on clear. “The abstract composition of black and white using the materials of black and clear leaders does not show the movement of an object. Though time in film usually is shown in the process of movement, MA (Intervals) consists of time intervals without movement.”—Iimura, The Collected Writings, 2007.
